About
Mid 2019 I was diagnosed with…
Heart Disease. The wife had already gone vegan in 2017 but what started out as great intentions turned into another failed diet. We gradually became junk food vegans and we were not healthy at all. Then in 2019 after finding out that I had heart disease I dove head first into a Whole Food Plant Based way of eating. I bought and read Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease by Dr. Esselstyn. My cholesterol which had been high dropped fast and I was feeling so much better. Unfortunately the damage had been done and after some bad test results my Cardiologist went in and discovered I had 80% blockage in my LAD artery of my heart. They placed 2 stents into that artery. I was limited in what exercise I could do for awhile after that and I pretty much just did a lot of walking. I used this time to concentrate on my eating. Making sure I followed the guidelines set forth in the book. The weight started to fall off and since changing my way of eating I have lost 45lbs. My diabetes (type 2) is gone and all my bloodwork is great. My doctors have praised my efforts and I feel like I am finally in control of this. As soon as I was cleared for exercise I started running. I joined a trail running group and while I am not fast I learned to enjoy it. I ran my first trail race (17K) and then a month later my first 1/2 marathon. Back issues have caused me to cut back on running and I want to focus more on cycling now. I’m a huge fan of Zwift which under the current COVID-19 situation has been a blessing. I’m also to the point now where I want to give back. Besides this website I have a Facebook page where I share updates from my life. I also have an Instagram dedicated to this and a YouTube channel. I’m hoping to put content out that helps people that are going through similar issues like I have been through.
